Daily Panorama ‘Locked’ in

Waited ages for the water to fill, only to discover that our shipmates operating the lock hadn’t closed the rear gate enough! It took a couple of local Bradford on Avon kids to correct the issue. Thanks!

Following this, we sped it, made some waves and got back in good time. It’s good to make waves on the canal at ahem… 6mph or 48squillion notts.

Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci’s ‘Banana’

I’m not quite sure how this came about to be honest and although I could do some online research to work out where and who it came from, I must admit that the mystery of it is part of the appeal. I stumbled upon this on TV late one night many years ago – I think it was on S4C (the Welsh-language channel of Wales) – and, given my total obsessiveness with Gorky’s at the time, it was a real find for a major fan.

In last friday’s post, Binky specified that he couldn’t find Miss Trudy by Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci on the Playlistify thingy so I looked it up on YouTube and – as if by circumstantial magic (Non-fans will not be aware of the black magic of Gorky’s) came upon the following Banana playlist once again:

In essence, Banana is just a collection of home made music videos made on VHS at arguably their creative peak over the period of an EP or two and the Bwyd Time LP. As I say, I don’t know who filmed them, but it’s not important. What’s important is that virtually every song – and it is like listening to an album – is brilliant and from this you really get the energy and excitement of a load of kids who were loving playing music and entertaining even the great John Peel.

If you’re not digging the Gorky’s sound or feel like switching off, check out the 12 Impressionistic Soundscapes before you log off for an … ahem… slightly different experience (read ‘headmash’).

Daily Panorama Pub Closed

Parked up the narrow boat, strolled over this bridge to the 17th Century pub only to discover it had closed 10 mins earlier. No Sunday dinner for the remaining bargers.

What followed was a journey all the way back to the trusty pub in Avoncliff where dinner was served.

Friday Playlist #4

Another assortment of good, bad, and ugly tracks for you.

The Poor, the Fair, and the Good – Silver Jews
Untitled Roadside Demo – Black Moth Super Rainbow
1000 Faces – Gonzales
City Limits – Mistah F.A.B.
Happy Cycling – Boards of Canada
Bizarre Love Triangle – New Order
We’re all in this Together – Ben Lee
Miss Trudy – Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci
Better Not Be So – Surrounded
Sweedeedee – Cat Power

A shame Playlistify couldn’t find Silver Jews or Gorky’s, but there you go. I’m surprised that it did managed to find Black Moth Super Rainbow – an album I bought because Kate got a concert poster of theirs to hang in the kitchen because she liked the design, and it just seemed wrong to me to have a poster up of a band whose music I’d never heard. Without further ado, here it is (hmm – just watched the videos. Not sure what’s going on with Playlistify this week, but that’s not Gonzales or Ben Lee, and that’s not the right Mistah F.A.B. song…I might have to look into another solution if this craziness keeps up!):
