Weekly Playlist

Friday again already, so another playlist for your listening…umm…pleasure? Some fun songs here – doing it the Youtube way means I can pick out live versions where possible, so you get some pretty shoddy recording, but a nicer feel. Also, who knew David Byrne covered The Man Who Loved Beer? Not I, but it’s a pretty faithful rendition if you want to find it on the ‘Tube.

Cow – Sparklehorse
Missing Children – Teddy Thompson
Siren Song – Bat for Lashes
Live With Me – The Rolling Stones
Everything Means Nothing to Me – Elliott Smith
The Man Who Loved Beer – Lambchop
Dress Like Your Mother – Sleeper
Opus of Regret – Chrome Hoof
Loser – Beck
10:1 – Rogue Wave

Weekly Playlist

Apologies for the lack of a playlist last week; Easter got in the way. I got half-way through an egg-themed special on Thursday but too many meetings meant no time to finish. So is this week’s playlist super especially double good to make up for it? Um…no. But, I am trying out a new playlist method. Playlistify was getting annoying, so I’m going for the manual method of creating a YouTube playlist. Not sure quite how it’s going to work, but I’ll give it a go and see. Let me know if it’s better or worse.

Eternal Life – Jeff Buckley
Celebrity – Matthew Herbert
Got to Give it Up – Marvin Gaye
Universally Speaking – Red Hot Chili Peppers
Universal Skills – Arsonists
Life in a Glass House – Radiohead
Summer’s First Breath – Epic45
Naked – The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Power to the People – Public Enemy
Boys Better – The Dandy Warhols

Friday Playlist #4

Another assortment of good, bad, and ugly tracks for you.

The Poor, the Fair, and the Good – Silver Jews
Untitled Roadside Demo – Black Moth Super Rainbow
1000 Faces – Gonzales
City Limits – Mistah F.A.B.
Happy Cycling – Boards of Canada
Bizarre Love Triangle – New Order
We’re all in this Together – Ben Lee
Miss Trudy – Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci
Better Not Be So – Surrounded
Sweedeedee – Cat Power

A shame Playlistify couldn’t find Silver Jews or Gorky’s, but there you go. I’m surprised that it did managed to find Black Moth Super Rainbow – an album I bought because Kate got a concert poster of theirs to hang in the kitchen because she liked the design, and it just seemed wrong to me to have a poster up of a band whose music I’d never heard. Without further ado, here it is (hmm – just watched the videos. Not sure what’s going on with Playlistify this week, but that’s not Gonzales or Ben Lee, and that’s not the right Mistah F.A.B. song…I might have to look into another solution if this craziness keeps up!):

Friday Playlist #3

A mixed bag to get you through this Friday, and Playlistify managed to find 9 out of 10 of the tracks! Weirdly it didn’t find one I expected it to, and did find a few I thought it would struggle with. Anyway, without further ado here’s the full list:

Rip Her to Shreds – Blondie
Hogwash – Fu Manchu
Tell Your Girl – The Asleep
Redlights – Salem
The Book I Haven’t Read – Lambchop
What’s Going On – Marvin Gaye
Yertle the Turtle – Red Hot Chili Peppers
Mrs Bigger – Herman Dune
Handcuffed to a Fence in Mississippi – Jim White
I Wanna Pick You Up – Alex Chilton

And here’s the playlist:

For the Mothers

Weekly Playlist #2

It’s mother’s day this weekend, so what better way to show some love than with a mother-themed playlist? Unfortunately, I’m still not getting much embedding love – only 6 tracks worked today, and some of those are fairly random reinterpretations rather than the originals. Still, here it is:

Worth it for The Knife alone – beautiful, even played loud through tinny PC speakers. It also has one of the best videos ever! Here’s the full original playlist:

We Share Our Mother’s Health – The Knife
Does Your Mother Know – ABBA
Your Mother Should Know – The Beatles
Dress Like Your Mother – Sleeper
Every Mother’s Son – The Wedding Present
I Feel Like the Mother of the World – Smog
I Need a Mother – Eels
I Want to be the Boy to Warm your Mother’s Heart – The White Stripes
Mother’s Little Helper – The Rolling Stones
This is to Mother You – Sinead O’Connor

No worries about missing Sinead O’Connor (unless your mum likes her), but there were some fantastic tracks (e.g. Smog) in there that would have been nice to hear. Oh well, better luck next time.

Friday Playlist #1

Some things are harder than they should be. I know, I thought, I’ll make a Friday playlist on the blog… that’ll be a fun thing for me to do every week. Why not use Spotify, I thought, then people will actually be able to play it. But no, Spotify won’t let me do that. Okay, I thought, I’ll use last.fm, but no, last.fm won’t let me do it either. So in the end I’m just going to type it out in plain text (on my phone). Am I just being stupid? There’s got to be an easier way, hasn’t there? If there is, please, please let me know.

Without further ado, here is the Friday playlist:

1 – Join the dots – Roots Manuva
2 – Hypnotize – The Notorious B.I.G.
3 – Court Room Blues – Leroy Carr & Scrapper Blackwell
4 – Enjoy Your Worries, You May Never Have Them Again – The Books
5 – Kelly Watch The Stars – Air
6 – Untitled II – Calexico
7 – Come – Lemon Jelly
8 – Ballad Of The Sun And Moon – Alejandro Escovedo
9 – Choking Tara (Creamy Version) – Guided By Voices
10 – Some Jingle Jangle Morning ( When I’m Straight) – Mary Lou Lord

EDIT: I just found this – it only seemed to have 8 of the tracks, but it’s a start. I’m going to try embedding it. Kris – let me know if you don’t want me to embed nonsense here.
